The UC Haiti Initiative @ UC Davis is driven by students, faculty, researchers and affiliates who are interested in applying their academic resources to the search for real solutions to the poverty created and perpetuated by the earthquake that devastated Haiti in January of 2010. This chapter has established a close connection between the student body and faculty members to ensure that the rebuilding and long-term sustainability initiatives is met in Haiti through collaboration and higher education.
Currently, we are spreading awareness about Haiti around the University and in the city of Davis through presentations, guest speakers, supplementary readings and campus-wide events. UC Haiti Initiative @ UC Davis is a call to action for those affected by the earthquake, founded at the UC Davis campus in April of 2010.
Our goal is to promote a shared vision of the future growth and development possible for the Haitian community, in which we develop new ways of working together from within the structure of the University at a global, national and local level. This is a vision that has poor communities and people at its center, and a wish to focus action on the causes and consequences of the post-earthquake conditions that continue to shake and impoverish these communities. We invite you to learn how you can get involved in our cause, increasing awareness and developing partnerships for Haiti.
