The UC Haiti Initiative at UC Santa Cruz is driven by students, faculty, researchers and affiliates who are interested in applying their academic resources to the search for real solutions to the poverty created and perpetuated by the earthquake that devastated Haiti in January 2010. This chapter is a call to action for those affected by the earthquake, founded at the UCSC campus in September 2010.

UCHI partners with Haiti’s largest public institution of higher learning, the Universite d’Etat d’Haiti (UEH), which lost hundreds of lives and 90% of its physical infrastructure in the 2010 earthquake. Our projects are co-developed and co-implemented with UEH. It is UCHI's belief that higher education and training the country’s future leaders is critical to Haiti’s long term success. We are working toward a shared vision of the future for growth and development among the Haitian community. A vision in which we develop new ways of working together at a global and national level within the University, stretching to the local levels throughout Haiti.

The UCSC Chapter is an active student organization that works to bring together administration, faculty and students in hope of promoting sustainable development and higher education. We wish to spread awareness about Haiti throughout the student body and community. We invite you to learn how you can get involved, as well as learn about Haiti’s rich culture and history.
