The UC Haiti Initiative @ UCLA is driven by students, faculty, researchers and affiliates who are interested in applying their academic resources to the search for real solutions to the poverty created and perpetuated by the earthquake that devastated Haiti in January 2010. This chapter is a call to action for those affected by the earthquake, founded at the UCLA campus in April of that year.
Currently, the UCLA Chapter of the UC Haiti Initiative is an active student organization whose vision is to bring together administration, faculty, and students in hope of promoting sustained development. Our faculty and students aim to collaborate with Haitian academia and institutions in order to more efficiently help Haiti.
Many faculty and students have become involved and we will soon promote Haitian awareness throughout Los Angeles and its surrounding areas. We hope to do this by educating students about Haiti's rich culture and history and methods of sustained development. We will commence a course on Haiti at UCLA in Fall 2011. Notable faculty involved are Dr. Robin Derby and Dr. Raul Hinojosa.
We invite you to learn how you can get involved, working to increase the availability of information about Haiti and Haitian redevelopment on the UC campuses. Please contact Laya Reddy for any questions or to join this chapter.
